In late Spring 2021, Art Pop-Up invited the Evergreen community and local seniors to share a memory or story to create a memory anthology. Art Pop-Up sent out out postcards and asking people to get in touch with their stories and memories. Creative writer and poet, Darren Rawnsley, chatted with the contributors and developed their stories into poems and pieces of writing, with help from other participants in the project.
Artist Sam Roddan created some accompanying illustrations and the work was developed into a beautiful book, Sharing Stories: a Memory Anthology. Copies have been shared with the participants and their circle of friends and family allowing these memories to be discussed, shared and treasured.
As COVID controls eased and on a fortunately sunny day, the contributors met for a wonderful celebration on the terrace of the William Cecil Hotel where participants retold their fascinating stories from heroic D-day recollections to finely tuned early photographic processes and headline courtroom journalism.
With thanks to the Department of Media, Culture and Sport (via National Lottery Community Funding) for funding the project.
